Job Title: Technician – Histology
Location: New York, NY 10065
Duration: 6 Months (Approx. 24 Weeks)
Shift: Monday–Friday, 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM (includes a 45-minute break)
Department: Surgical Pathology
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Histology Technician to join a surgical pathology team for a 6-month assignment. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills in processing, embedding, and sectioning tissue specimens, as well as experience working with small biopsies and routine surgical samples. This position plays a vital role in supporting accurate and timely diagnostic evaluations.
ResponsibilitiesPerform grossing of small biopsies and simple routine specimens under supervision in the gross room.
Process, embed, section (microtomy), and stain surgical specimens according to standard laboratory protocols.
Ensure specimen integrity and accurate labeling throughout all phases of testing.
Maintain and operate histology laboratory equipment , including microtomes, tissue processors, and embedding centers.
Monitor quality control procedures and assist in troubleshooting technical issues.
Follow all safety, infection control, and regulatory compliance standards within the laboratory environment.
Collaborate with pathologists and laboratory staff to support efficient workflow and high-quality diagnostic outcomes.
Associate’s Degree in Science and completion of an approved, accredited Histology program required;
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent laboratory experience may be considered.
New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist License , Certified Histology Technician , or Clinical Laboratory Technician license from the NYSED (New York State Education Department) required.
2–3 years of histology experience working with biopsy and dermatology specimens required.
Demonstrated experience in embedding and microtomy of surgical specimens.
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
