Step into Mon Valley Works as our next PLC/Controls Electrician

Picture your shift starting beneath the gantry cranes. A call comes in: a line is down. You grab your test instruments, pull up PLC logic, and trace an AC/DC power issue. Minutes later, the mill is humming again. That’s the impact you’ll make maintaining and repairing complex electrical systems that keep U. S. Steel running 24/7.

Where you’ll work

Apply once and be considered across all three Mon Valley Works locations—Clairton Works, Irvin Works, and Edgar Thomson Works.

What you’ll do

• Troubleshoot, install, maintain, and repair a wide range of electrical and electronic equipment using schematics, PLCs, and AC/DC systems.
• Operate and work around mobile equipment, pendant and overhead cranes, and forklifts as part of maintenance activities.
• Support operations when needed to sustain continuous production.
• Handle assignments independently with minimal supervision or collaborate with other maintenance technicians.
• Move between areas of the plant as required; environments can be hot, cold, dirty, greasy, wet, and noisy.

Schedule and safety

• Rotating 8-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays.
• Overtime as needed to support production.
• Strict adherence to safety procedures. PPE includes hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective clothing, and metatarsal-guard boots.
• Punctuality, reliable attendance, and self-direction are essential.

What you bring

• High School Diploma or GED.
• At least 1 year of manufacturing/industrial experience (including applicable military experience) or equivalent education.
• Background in areas such as: industrial electronics; motors and controls; electrical schematics and power; print reading; computers and PLCs; electronics; AC/DC theory and power; test instruments and instrumentation; electrical maintenance; and/or commercial electrical construction and installation.
• Ability to pass required assessment test(s).

Technical proficiency

• PLC troubleshooting, programming, and wiring
• Electrical and equipment troubleshooting
• Facilities maintenance in a heavy manufacturing setting
• General troubleshooting in industrial environments
• Experience working in manufacturing operations
