Job Summary: The Pole Barn Construction Laborer assists in building post-frame (pole barn) structures by performing various on-site construction tasks under the direction of crew leaders and foremen. This role requires strength, stamina, and attention to detail, with regular work involving outdoor conditions year-round, lifting up to 50 lbs, and working safely at heights up to 30+ feet. Experience with tinning (metal roofing and siding installation) is highly valued, as all pole barns are tinned structures.
Assist with loading, unloading, and organizing pole barn materials , including posts, trusses, metal panels (tin), and fasteners.
Set posts, frame walls, install trusses, and attach metal roofing and siding (tin) according to project specifications.
Operate hand and power tools (e.g., drills, saws, impact drivers, metal shears) safely and efficiently.
Measure, cut, and fit tin panels for roofing and siding applications.
Ensure proper alignment and secure installation of tin panels, trims, and closures for a watertight finish.
Help with site preparation , including layout, grading, and clean-up.
Maintain a clean and organized job site to promote safety and efficiency.
Assist skilled tradespeople with specialized tasks such as framing, metal work, and door installation.
Follow all safety procedures , including the use of PPE and fall protection systems.
Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure work aligns with project timelines.
Ability to work outdoors year-round in various weather conditions.
Basic understanding of construction and framing techniques, especially post-frame structures.
Experience or familiarity with tinning (installing metal roofing and siding).
Proficiency with hand and power tools used in framing and tin installation.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship.
Willingness to learn new skills and follow directions accurately.
Preferred Skills:
Certification in operating heavy machinery, such as forklifts or skid-steer loaders.
Familiarity with construction safety regulations and practices.
Experience with concrete work, framing, or finishing.
Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish or other languages commonly spoken in the area.
Education Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job (but are not limited to). The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, or crouch for extended periods of time, unassisted. The incumbent must wear a respirator when required. Manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination sufficient to operate industrial machinery is required. This job also requires full range of body motion to include handling and lifting. The incumbent must repeatedly lift and/or move up to 65 (SIXTY-FIVE) pounds unassisted. Visual acuity, hearing, speaking, reading, and writing must be adequate to perform all required tasks in a safe manner.
Work Environment:
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Work is usually done outdoors and sometimes at a client facility or job site and is frequently performed in inclement and/or extreme weather conditions. The incumbent is exposed to electricity, moving mechanical parts, vehicles, equipment, and hazardous materials. This position regularly requires long work hours and frequent weekend work.
